Places and Spaces – Oregon Buddhist Temple’s 10th Annual Holiday Craft Fair
Creating community spaces is central to Right of Passage’s mission. We strive to provide opportunities where clients and families connect, share, and build relationships. Sometimes we fortuitously find the right opportunity like on Saturday,
November 22, when Right of Passage proudly sponsored one of 33 vendor tables at Oregon Buddhist Temple’s Annual Holiday Crafts Fair in Portland, OR. From the time the doors opened at 9 am until closing at 3pm, a steady stream of shoppers explored crafts, photography, dolls, bonsai, plants, desserts, miso-based items, and greeting cards—including the heartfelt creations of Handmade with Love by Heather.
Right of Passage’s table was perfectly positioned for Heather to sell her beautifully designed cards and to connect with fellow vendors, discuss techniques, and exchange ideas.
In between customers, I chatted with Heather and Michelle who is one of Heather’s Direct Support Workers. They have been crafting together for the past three years. In fact, Heather introduced Michelle to the craft. In addition to their weekly craft making, they gather monthly for an all-day meet up with other card makers. For Heather, creating cards is a passion that allows her to express her thoughts and emotions. The love Heather pours into each card was evident to everyone who stopped by. Her growing confidence, built through participation in craft fairs for the last couple of years, truly empowers her as a professional creative.
We will always build community by celebrating your natural talents and gifts which is why you may meet Heather at an upcoming craft fair where Right of Passage sponsors a table. If you have a craft you want us to showcase, let us know by clicking this link and filling out a 3 question survey. Use the same link if you want to nominate a crafter!
Be sure to check our events calendar for upcoming opportunities to connect and celebrate community.
